Painter Girl

Description

In my drawing class we're supposed to be drawings tons of "real life" stuff, like still life, drawing from Nat Geo magazines, that kind of thing. The teacher wants us to draw ugly or old or just plain realistic people, rather than anything sexy, erotic, or cartoony...which is about all I ever do.

When we finished with sketching some still life stuff, the teacher told us to draw stuff around the classroom for our sketchbook, which are supposed to be filling up with appropriate drawings, so I chose to sketch one of the students, who was sitting right in front of me, working on her still life. The teacher remarked that the girl (wish I could remember her name! I made a point to try to remember the names of the girls I thought were cute, but somehow forgot this one's) sketched like a painter, with a lot of rough, stroke like lines, and the girl is indeed a painter. She found it very hard to refrain from shading, since the assignment was just contour.

This picture doesn't even come close to doing her justice, but mostly I wanted to get her pose/gesture down. I liked the way her body looked as she sat in a particular way. And her hair is amazing, the curls long enough to splash off her desk. If my veins didn't freeze up when talking to a hot girl, I would have shown her this and maybe asked if I could draw her properly. Maybe later this semester I'll get to.
