The Fred Corleone Show

Description

It's been forever since I read the books, but certain things will always stand out. Some of those moments include Fredo, who is definitely my favorite character. Michael is awesome, too, but other than Fredo another top fave is Nick Geraci, who apparently was just too awesome to be included in the movies lol. Of all of Michael's enemies, Nick challenged him the most. What trouble he caused...

but anyway! In the second book, Fredo got his own show. He had been dating a very famous but unloving actress who often cheated on him. He slept around constantly, but was furious when he found her in bed with another man. so mad, that he went down to the garage and shot the man's car up. He never hit her, though. He was rough with women, but he didn't beat on them. He did, however, beat up on other men, including Michael when they were both still kids and Fredo's older age meant something, and when his male lovers piss him off.

Ahhh what a shame that Fredo's sexuality was never addressed in the movies. And the way he viewed it himself, the way he abused his boyfriends and hated himself for his "perversion" has inspired me in my own writings.

Fredo is a sweetheart in the movies. Harmless, popular, submissive. He is that way in the books, too, except he has a violent, crazy streak. He is still a Corleone, after all.

So, even if his actress wife couldn't give him the time of day, she did get him wormed into Hollywood. He played bit parts here and there, once as a cowboy. There was one part where some guy made a comment to Fredo, calling him gay, but in an obviously joking way, and Fredo blew his top. He savagely denies liking other men...when he's not fucking them, of course.

His show was a barely watched, irregularly aired talk show that lasted maybe two years, ending right at his death. He once had the famous Johnny Fontane (he's also not in the movies much, even though he's a direct copy of Frank Sinatra. In both cases, the Mafia helped make the singers famous) on his show. He was called "Fred" on the show, because apparently his Italian name isn't very WASP friendly. Bad enough he has a foreign sounding last name.
