So recently I discovered a really awesome movie: Scarface. The original, mofos. This one was made in '32, and rips off a LOT of Al Capone's misadventures in Chicago. Tony Camonte is definitely patterned after Al, though he is his own character, and the movie goes on an exciting new direction from real life. I'll give you one spoiler: Tony doesn't get busted for tax evasion.

And the Al Pacino Scarface takes a lot of its story and relationships from this one, which is cool too. Because again, that Tony, while inspired by another character, becomes his own character. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can recognize where all these ideas are coming from; real life and fiction, but it works. And in turn I'm inspired by movies like these and real life accounts when I write my own gangster stories.

well anyway, I love this movie. It's one of the first in its genre, and is authentic as hell. It's also very minimal, very little glamour or flashy stuff. It seems like the fanciest props they had were the guns, because they definitely looked authentic.

in this scene, Tony had just escaped an attack. His friend killed one of the attackers, and just like in a video game, he went outside and picked up the guy's Tommy gun and brought it back to Tony. Tony was beside himself with excitement over it, and he wants more. Here he's trying to show his boss how awesome it all is, but his boss is a real grouch. The guy on the right is Tony's friend/second in command, and the lady is Tony's crush (and she likes him too, but she's the boss's girlfriend, oh no!!)

Poppy doesn't get too involved with the crime stuff, but Tony's sister does, to an extent. That's another thing I adore about this movie, two engaging female characters I can love just as much as the guys (maybe not as much as Tony lol)

this is a copy of a screenshot. dip pen and ink, ink wash. I'm writing out a script to a comic and I'm thinking the panel art could be done like this. It's kinda sloppy, but I like it.

thanks so much!! glad you like the style! I think I will do the comic like this, then. It's fairly easy compared to full color or something like that
